More Than 17,000 Kids’ Pajamas Recalled by a Popular Brand

Just three weeks after holiday pajamas were recalled by a major apparel brand, another kids’ pajama seller is announcing a recall on kiddos’ P.J. sets for the same safety concern.
The January recall removed 22,000 pairs of kids’ pajamas from the market due to burn injury risk. Announced on February 13 by the Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), the newer recall affects 17,300 sets of children’s sleepwear—specifically, four colorways of SHEIN EVRYDAY Kids Pajama Sets, which failed to meet fire safety standards.
The recalled two-piece, short-sleeve tween girls’ sets range in sizes 8Y, 9Y, 10Y, 11Y, and 12Y. The notice advises they bear a pocket on the left side of the pajama shirt, and feature dark-colored and decorative piping, evoking a classic “silk pajama” aesthetic associated with high-end hotels.
Grownups can identify the recalled product by locating a sewn-in neck label bearing the brand name “SHEIN,” and the following SKU numbers, which are printed on a seam label:
- Blue (SKU: 2407018985445734)
- Pink (SKU: 2407082184653588)
- Purple (SKU: 2406274753471153)
- Orange (SKU: 2404283444125106)
SHEIN is a fast-fashion e-retailer brand known for its steeply discounted prices. In 2022, the brand was valued at $100 billion, making it more profitable than competitors H&M and Zara combined, Forbes reported at the time. Consumers typically view the company as trendy and affordable, but it reputation has also been marred by reported poor construction, a lack of sustainable production methods, and questions over chemicals in their fabrics.
According to the CPSC notice, the recalled pajamas, which are made of 97% polyester 3% elastane, violate the federal flammability regulations for children’s sleepwear. These rules were put in place to prevent serious burn injuries and death associated with flammable fabrics. “The standards were designed to protect children from small open-flame sources, such as matches, lighters, candles, fireplace embers, stoves, and space heaters,” the CPSC explains. “The fabric and finished garments of children’s sleepwear subject to the standards must pass certain flammability tests,” they write.
