In the rush of morning, you’re trying to get bellies fed and everybody out the door—but on the heels of a popular breakfast recall comes another pancake recall. Just announced by a well-known and far-reaching grocery retailer, the recalled product contains unlisted ingredients that could be problematic to consumers with certain food allergies or sensitivities, with children in particular often affected.

A recall reportedly initiated on Sunday, February 16 and posted on the Kroger website has announced that Naturipe Berry Buddies Berries and Pancakes snacks in 15 total states were being recalled for two undeclared possible food allergens. The announcement states the recall has been executed “because the Naturipe product may contain UNDECLARED WHEAT AND EGG and, if eaten, could result in severe allergic reactions in persons sensitive to WHEAT and EGG.” The Berry Buddies Berries and Pancakes snacks are said to contain mini pancakes, berries, and Canada-sourced maple syrup. (Note: Research suggests the product is sold at other supermarket chains, such as Meijer, Fred Meyers, and via grocery delivery services like Instacart and Uber Eats.)

The Cleveland Clinic says egg allergies are the second most common food allergy among children, affecting around 2% of children (though around half may outgrow the allergy by their teenage years). Cleveland adds that wheat allergies—which are not the same as a gluten intolerance or celiac disease—are less common, but both types of food allergies can produce serious reactions in some people and should be taken seriously.

Product details for the recalled grocery item are:

  • Naturipe Berry Buddies Berries and Pancakes
  • 2.1 oz. (ounces)
  • UPC 8-12049-00287
  • Best If Used By date of 02/25/2025

The Kroger website lists the following as Kroger store locations included in the recall:

  • Auburn, Alabama
  • Greater Cincinnati (including Northern Kentucky and Dayton, Ohio plus South Eastern Indiana)
  • Central and Northwest Ohio
  • Northwestern Virginia panhandle

It doesn’t seem clear from the notice the total quantity of product being recalled. The Berry Buddies snacks are produced by Naturipe Farms, which operate out of Salinas, CA but work with berry producers in several locations in the U.S. and globally.

The Kroger notice says consumers can return affected products to the store for a full refund. Consumers may also contact the Naturipe Farms company at (239) 598-6045.
